Christian Warlich - King of the tattoo artists

The Hamburg tattoo artist Christian Warlich (1891-1964) is a pioneer of professional tattooing in the early 20th century. He is considered one of the most important representatives of this art form and became internationally known as the "King of Tattooers".

Warlich was concerned with a lively international exchange and was inspired, among other things, by the formal language of Asian tattoos and by American motifs. He was not only conspicuous for his claim to professionalize tattooing, but also distinguished himself by his craftsmanship and a certain artistic ambition.
